Torus mandibularis is a bony growth on the mandible (lower jaw) near the rear molars and is a relatively uncommon oral condition that affects about 2.5% of the adult population. It’s primarily a bilateral condition, with about 90% of cases occurring on both the left and right sides of the inner lower jaw. It can also affect the roof of the mouth (palate) and is known as torus palatinus. A tori mandibularis removal (or tori reduction) surgical procedure may be recommended by your dentist if the growth is painful or interferes with the fitting of dentures and causes ulcers or sores.
